Captain's Log, Supplemental:

A message from the new Commander, STARFLEET:

***** FOR WIDEST DISTRIBUTION POSSIBLE***** *****LAP WARNING******

Hello my fellow members, Well it has been quite the few days hasn’t it. First I want to wish you all a Happy New Year and I hope that it brings you everything you hope for. I also want to thank everyone for the congratulations on assuming the center seat. I would have thanked you sooner, but as many of you know, I am an accountant at a law firm and we refer to the week between Christmas and New Year’s as HELL Week. In fact this is the first time I have sat down at my personal computer since Christmas afternoon. But I digress. A lot has happened recently and I am still processing it all. Part of me is very sad, to see a friend’s illness take away something that he was so passionate about. Part of me is guilty, thinking that I could have done more to help. Then part of me is excited that I get to join the club within the club that is Commander STARFLEET. So, you probably don’t care how I’m feeling and want to know what the heck is going on right? Well, we are still operating in normal fashion. I have been on the computer less than normal this week, but our year end close is now done. I am assuming command and Fleet Admiral Westfall I relieve you Sir, may your recovery be fast and you spirit become strong and I owe you a good drink when I see you next(whether the doctors say it’s a good idea or not). As of right now I am going through what was on the Commanders plate and getting things organized. I will be meeting with the EC shortly to see what their goals for 2018 are, once we do that I will report back with some ideas as to where we are going. Personally I have three goals moving forward, better communication, use of better technology, and finding areas that have single points of failure and getting that fixed. After all no decent CO would take a ship out without backups and redundant systems, and I believe STARFLEET has done that for too long. For the time being Major General Joe Sare will be standing in as acting VCS, while we open up the search for quality candidates. If you are interested in the position of VCS please submit a letter of interest to CS@sfi.org include your leadership roles or major accomplishments from both your STARFLEET and real life careers. Any non-profit board management or experience that you may have, and what computer skills you may possess. As well as a statement of why you want to be the next target, I mean VCS and what you think you can bring to the table. I am taking letters until Monday the 8th of January 2018. At that point a questioner will be sent out to the interested parties with some follow up items. My goal for this is to have a nominee to the AB on January 15th. That’s all for now, sorry for the long post and I will talk to you soon, Dan Commander STARFLEET
